  • emphasize something that’s important within the scene by placing them close to the camera and what is less important by placing them far away from the camera
  • having to many close ups in a scene can be exhausting for the actors
  • The audience will pay more attention to the person speaking, the person who is being spoken to, or the person who is the closest to a light source.
  • How is the character’s face shown in relation to the lens? It can be either their whole face, 3/4, or a side profile.
  • Subtly moving the camera to isolate certain characters in one technique used to focus the audience’s attention.
  • An ensemble can tell more than one story in a scene. The stories most connect to drive a certain moral.
  • It’s easier to do ensembles than cutting away from an actor’s face to another actor’s face.

  • direction of the characters can tell a lot about their relationship
  • if characters are facing each other even in a phone call it implies that they have a good relation ship
  • Close-ups mean that the thing or person that’s being shown is important, and is there for a reason.

  • when moving from shot to shot have the viewers focus on one point
  • you need to make the audience understand why the character is sad
  • environment can reveal how a character feels
  • the key to emotion lies in those affected by it

  • cooler colors especially blues can help to add the sad and gloomy nature of a scene (this also applies to you characters cloths try and match the dark cloths to a dark scene)
