Birthdate: unknown, Birth Location: unknown

Personal Success Definition

I define success as someone who creates something that means something to them or to a wider audience

The brothers are successful because they revived a long-forgotten style of animation that could be seen as both game design and film achievements but also were the first company to try making a game in the rubber hose style and even succeeded in doing so.

Skills for Success

The Moldenhauer brother’s skills include 1) experience with graphic design 2) a clear understanding of games and what makes them work 3) knowledge and love for old Fleischer studios films and cartoons. although the development of Cuphead was a team effort it could not have been achieved without chad Moldenhauer whos experience with graphic design allowed them to capture the look that they wanted. Mia Moldenhauer has been cited as saying that the brothers were often down in their basement with friends and family dissecting their games figuring out what made them work and what didn’t. Chad Moldenhauer has been cited as saying that their parents are who showed them old Fleischer films and that it was the fact that they were exposed to that at an early age that leads to their love of the rubber hose style that Cuphead would adopt.

How They Used These Skills

The Moldenhauer brothers as well as their team made of friends and family used their abilities as programmers, graphic designers, and a whole host of other talents to build a game that looks like it was ripped right out of a 1930s cartoon.

Challenges Overcome

The brothers had to overcome many challenges mainly being financial and life-based. In order to overcome these challenges, the remortgaged their homes and even brought on people they knew to fill certain roles such as composing the music since they knew that those people could create what they wanted with the same level of passion.

Significant Work

Some of their significant work of course includes Cuphead but also much more in development. DLC for the game is currently in development as well as a comedy series that will be streaming off of Netflix

Leadership: Advisory meeting/ distance learning presentation

Leadership has always been a large part of the work that is done in both the film and game design classes and this year was no different. However due to the unique situation that we all found ourselves in this school year some exciting opportunities did spring up for ways that we could achieve our leadership goals in these two classes.                  I was able to take advantage of two opportunities each with their own things to learn. firstly I was invited to an Advisory meeting that was concerned about the distance learning that everyone was taking part in and if and how it was successful. The main thing that I learned from this had to do with how decisions by the advisory committee affected that work that we do in both film and game design. Also, I learned about the full extent of the advisory committee and how it goes so much further than the few members that we see each month in our session reviews.                                                                                                               I also took part in a modified version of our session reviews that was done through a zoom meeting. this process was overall quite enjoyable since I was working from home and on my own terms, it allowed me to put together a project that I had always wanted to do and gave me wiggle room to do some experimentation that I wouldn’t have had the time to do if we were still taking part in regular schooling. What I learned from this mainly had to do with my fellow classmates. What I learned was which classmates really were motivated to do work in this field of study and of course, I learned some new tricks with game design just trough my own experimentation.
